it's man o'clock

Coco Chanel

Marlene Dietrich
Unleash your inner masculinity, elegantly. There's long been an interplay between masculine and feminine in fashion, and the boyish trend  for girls is definitely on the radar for next season. It's the masculine trend where women still ooze femininity which has been a style hit for decades.Coco Chanel  is one of the biggest names in fashion history, she popularised the beauty of having a tan, invented the little black dress and most importantly introduced masculine features into ladies' fashion with her prestigous Chanel suit.

Marlene Dietrich, the highly credited German actress and entertainer was noted for her trademark tuxedo and often combined masculine clothes to her wardrobe, giving herself an androgynous quality.

Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe and Alexa Chung are two great examples of fashion icons of  today who praise the masculine style and look fabulous. Janelle Monáe  in particular has gained a signature clothing style of wearing a Tuxedo wardrobe and she said on the matter to Honey Magazine "I bathe in it, I swim in it, and I could be buried in it. A tux is such a standard uniform, it’s so classy and it’s a lifestyle I enjoy. The tux keeps me balanced. I look at myself as a canvas. I don’t want to cloud myself with too many colors or I’ll go crazy. It’s an experiment I’m doing. I think I want to be in the Guinness Book of World Records."

Alexa Chung
The whole look is about picking pieces of sharp tailoring which is stereotypically masculine but still accentuates and flatters the female shape. To achieve this,  pick a masculine accessory and work around it with your own sense of style to achieve a  unique look of your own. Brogues, Bold square glasses, a blazer ,white shirt or slouchy trousers held up with braces are examples of elements that you could choose to create a true signature look. This look doesn't just look fantastic, it also benefits your bank account. You can find boyish pieces anywhere, grab a skinny tie at a local charity shop or a trilby off the high-street such as Topshop/Topman. You could even borrow off your man (if he's feeling generous) or just raid his wardrobe anyway! But just remember not to look identical, not the best of looks.

Below are some fashion house muses who are embracing the masculine silhouette straight off the A/W 2011 runway.

Dolce & Gabbana show rounded off by a large group of sultry models, some dressed as men, others as women. A nice reference to the masculine/androgyn look that is so popular in fashion right now.At Dolce & Gabbana, vixenish girls were counterpoised with girls clad in crisp shirts, low-slung trousers, waistcoats and bright sequinned evening jackets for night.

Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana played with gender this season both in terms of clothing and beauty; portraying the sensual Dolce & Gabbana woman along with the
man she seduces

For the masculine look, the hair was transformed into messy quiffs. Sculpting the hair with gel to create body, the hair was then styled into a side part, and rolled it into tight pleats.

Karl Lagerfield's models radiated attitude. The Chanel models wore large jackets with rounded shoulders, baggy trousers and shiny flat working men's boots.Layering will makes your outfit have more dimension and emphasises the shape you desire to mould into. The dark colours is a good colour palette for the Autumn season, reflecting the mood and the air of mystery of this fall.

Masculine statement coats and Oxford shirts tucked snugly into clean cut trousers, featured in Celines minimalistic collection.

Celine colour scheme still saw bright colours adding warmth to the blustery days ahead. A zest of zing was popped this bright orange oversized coat --->

DKNY also sported a strong masculine feel.To make the
'boyish'  looks more wearable for women, DKNY paid attention to feminine details such as having ; bare legs, accentuated waists, sheer blouses and high heels, resulting in a subtle sexy vibe.

This added  feminine accents still keep the sex appeal.

The rust coloured coats add an elegant touch to a masculine cut.The models look like their stray boyfriends had let them their coat to shelter them from the cold!

(Awww) Enough about the soppy simile, look at those high-heeled brogues on the right! These beautys really do sum up the whole look, the mix of feminine and masculine.

Hey...It's a boy,girl thing.
